Safeguarding at St Cuthbert with St Matthias

St Cuthbert's school follows all Safeguarding and Child Protection procedures according to legal guidance and Kensington & Chelsea Local Authority. The safety and wellbeing of the children is our key priority.

All staff attend training annually in order to ensure that everyone is up to date with the most current Safeguarding and Child Protection legislation.  Training is also conducted throughout the school year, for example to update on legal requirements, for induction of any new member of staff.  Safeguarding is a key item on the weekly whole staff briefing agenda.

The school has a rigorous monitoring system in place in order to track pupils’ safety and wellbeing. This could at times include contacting Social Care or other outside agencies, if concerns are raised. The school will always endeavour to continue good communication with parents with regards to any concerns.

The local authority requires Headteachers to report any obvious or suspected case of child abuse - which includes non-accidental injury, severe physical neglect, emotional abuse and/or sexual abuse. This procedure is intended to protect children at risk and schools are encouraged to take the attitude that where there are grounds for suspicion it is better to be safe than sorry. This does mean that Headteachers risk upsetting some parents by reporting a case which, on investigation, proves unfounded. In such circumstances, it is hoped that parents and carers, appreciating how difficult it is for Headteachers to carry out this delicate responsibility, would accept that the Headteacher was acting in what were believed to be the child's best interest.

All concerns should be referred immediately to the Designated Safeguarding Lead (Miss Fautley) or in her absence, Miss Xynias, via the school office on 0207 373 8225 or admin@scwsm.rbkc.sch.uk

Please find a copy of the Safeguarding and Child Protection policy and the Online Safety policy in the “Key Information” section, under “Policies”.
