School Meals at St Cuthbert with St Matthias CofE Primary School
Children may have a school meal or bring a packed lunch.
The school meal service is provided by LUNCHTIME Co
School Meals Payment
All children in Reception, Year 1 and Year 2 receive free school dinners.
The Mayor of London has provided funding for school meals for pupils from Y3-Y6 as of September 2023.
Free School Meals
All children in Reception, Year 1 and Year 2 receive free school dinners.
Other children may qualify for free school meals if either parent is receiving Income Support, income-based Job Seekers Allowance from the Department of Social Security (DSS) or support under Part VI of the Immigration and Asylum Act 1999. If you think your child is eligible please contact the school office.
At London Grid for Learning www.fsm.lgfl.net parents can quickly and easily check eligibility for free school meals and, if eligible, also gain welcome additional funding for their child’s school, known as Pupil Premium.
If eligible you are not obliged to accept the free school meals for your child if you wish to make other arrangements, but we do want to encourage applications as the additional funding gained will still benefit education provision at the school.
Items that should or should not be inside packed lunches
We ask that children bring healthy food options in their packed lunches, such as natural fruit and vegetables. Highly processed foods are less healthy and may contain more preservatives.
Crisps, sweets, chocolate or fizzy drinks are not to be brought to school as part of the packed lunch. We ask that children do not bring nuts (or nut spread) to school as a snack or in packed lunches. We have a NO NUT policy in our school.
Children having school dinners have a dessert option each day and on some days this is cake. Children with packed lunches can therefore also bring a similar piece of plain cake in their packed lunch.
Water, fruit juice, milk or smoothies are the best drink options. Children may not bring fizzy drinks or highly sugared drink options in packed lunches. Children having school dinners have water, milk or smoothies.
Healthy Snacks
Children may bring a piece of fruit as a snack for their morning break.
Children may bring a piece of fruit, a natural fruit drink or a healthy snack option for a snack before an after school club.
We do not permit crisps, biscuits, sweets or processed fruit as snacks for playtime or as snacks before an after school club.
Treats
Occasionally we have fundraising Bake Sales. On these occasions children may enjoy the treats that are sold after school.
Small treats to celebrate birthdays (small cupcakes or slices of cake) may also be brought to school and handed out at the end of the day.
Healthy School Status
St Cuthbert's has been awarded a Healthy School (Silver award) status. The National Healthy Schools Programme (NHSP) is a joint Department of Health and Department for Children, Schools and Families project intended to improve health, raise pupil achievement, improve social inclusion and encourage closer working between health and education providers in the United Kingdom.
Part of the NHSP is to ensure that School meals at St Cuthbert's are prepared fresh on site daily and are healthy and nutritious. Having healthy and nutritious food made in our school canteen also enables our young people to make informed decisions about healthy food.
